“The Chosen”
There's a new television show out these days - and I'm sure you've heard of it- it's called, "The Chosen." It's one of those shows that portrays the life and ministry of Jesus. And Christians are going crazy over it.
To be honest, I've never seen a single episode - not even a single minute. But I've heard other people talk about it, and I can already tell it's not of God.
From what I understand, what this TV show does is it takes the four gospel accounts in the bible and adds additional plot elements to create a new, "more interesting" narrative. It takes the people recorded in the bible - such as Jesus, the twelve apostles, John the Baptist, Herod, Mary, etc. - and basically turns the four gospels into a TV drama. To give you an example, from what I've heard, apparently the disciple Thomas has a suspenseful relationship with his girlfriend...
The first verse that comes to mind is Revelation 22:19, which says, "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book." Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's exactly what the creators of "The Chosen" are doing - they're adding to what the bible says. Adding events, dialogue, and even characters, not once mentioned in scripture. God specifically forbids this.
Another verse that comes to mind is Luke 6:26. This verse says, "Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets." Everyone I've ever heard speak about "The Chosen" has absolutely loved it. They'll say things like, "You've gotta see it!" or "Oh, it's amazing!" Christians all over the world are gobbling this show up like it's grandma's freshly baked apple pie. Just from that fact alone, I can tell this show is not of God.
Jesus says to his disciples in John 15:19, "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own, but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." The world loves "The Chosen" because it's of the world - it appeals to the flesh, to the carnal side of people. The drama, the intrigue. If this show were actually providing biblical truth, the world would hate it. It would never be allowed on mainstream television. It would be condemned as bigotry and hate speech.
The bible says in 2 Peter 2:3, "And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not." The producers of this TV are making a pretty penny. And they know what they're doing. They know what the public craves. And they're laughing all the way to bank, all the while distorting people's perception of the bible.
Jeremiah 33:3 says, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." If you desire to understand the bible on a deeper level, seek truth in the pages of the King James Bible. Ask God for understanding in your prayer life. Listen to men of God you trust. But don't rely on "The Chosen." It will lead you astray.
